Kholodny Yar is a huge territory with a unique forest massif and the heroic history of our country. We managed to display this combination in one place by creating a virtual tour as part of the “Kholodny Yar: Path of the Brave” project.
The project was implemented by the Chigyryn District Charitable Organization “Chigyryn Region Development Fund”, the National Nature Park “Kholodny Yar” and the Charitable Fund for Social Development of the National Natural Park “Kholodny Yar” with the support of the Ukrainian Cultural Fund.
Kholodny Yar in 360°
To create a virtual tour, we used 360° technology to capture the area. Using a special camera that captures everything around and the drone at the same time, our specialist took more than 900 pictures in 15 locations. This made it possible to create two versions of the tour: a web version and a version for virtual reality glasses, available for viewing on a computer, smartphone and in a VR helmet.
Thanks to the 360° technology in the VR helmet, the user can look around in all directions and see the unexplored places of Kholodny Yar. The effect of presence in the location makes it possible to see all around the monuments, the Motrony monastery, the oak tree of Maksym Zalizniak and the rest of the sights without having to go to the area.
As the author of the project, Yanina Shvachko, noted:
“We want organized routes that will make our facilities and locations accessible. Historical and cultural, first of all, and, in addition, natural, which will become available to everyone…
A virtual tour will help you orient yourself and help those who cannot physically visit the attraction. There is a ban on visiting forests, and thanks to the tour, there is an opportunity to explore even those locations that are currently inaccessible.”
.
In the web version, there are signs with text information about the object, as well as an audio guide that tells about the area. This virtual character accompanies you throughout the 360° tour in a VR helmet.
The web version is also available in English. This is its main advantage because it allows to attract not only the Ukrainian audience, but also the audience abroad.
Kholodny Yar is a remarkable place. This is 7,000 hectares of continuous forest cut by ravines and beams, on the territory of which there are about 150 monuments and memorable places of history, culture and nature. This is the place of strength and spirit of the Ukrainian nation.
