Prymachenko’s Crocodile and Other Treasures of Kyiv Ceramics in 3D

Prymachenko’s Crocodile and Other Treasures of Kyiv Ceramics in 3D

In collaboration with the National Museum of Ukrainian Folk Decorative Art, we have developed a virtual exhibition showcasing objects originating from the Kyiv region, known for its powerful centers of ceramic, porcelain, earthenware, glass production, and more.

What Have We Digitized?

In collaboration with the museum staff, we carefully selected and digitized seven treasures from the collection, spanning different types of materials and eras. We created 3D replicas of the following:

  • A jar crafted in 1839 by the Kyiv-Mezhygir faience factory.
  • Vessels for drinks in the form of a two-faced lion from the early 19th century.
  • Vessels in the shape of a goat and a ram by Dmytro Golovko in the 1960s.
  • A statuette of Archangel Michael from the 18th century.
  • An Easter egg from the late 19th century.

Notably, the crocodile modeled in 1936 by the world-renowned Ukrainian artist Maria Prymachenko deserves special attention. The artist personally painted this small ceramic sculpture, infusing it with her favorite motifs: flowers and other plant ornaments.

Why Is It Important?

The National Museum preserves a unique collection encompassing all forms of Ukrainian decorative art. Within its walls, you can discover fascinating specimens of claywork, weaving, ceramics, pysankarti, and more. Although the collection lacks globally recognized names, these works demand collective attention due to their sophistication and uniqueness.

This project was undertaken as part of the broader initiative for museum digitalization and the development of a cultural and tourist hub by “Kyiv Digital”.
